As you can see the fashion editors are a little OBSESSED with the jewelled bustier, particularly this one by Dolce & Gabbana.

Designers from Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Versace, Prada, Balmain, Miu Miu, and Jean Paul Gaultier have shown collections adorned in multicoloured jewels for 2012 and 2013 collections;  the runways reminiscent of Aladdins Cave.   The trend is shimmering down to the high street too, with stores like ASOS and Topshop encrusting everything from shoes to bags to Daisy Dukes in gems and sparkles, and the D.I.Y kids are bedazzling up a glittery storm.

Maybelline 2012 Calendar

when we get invited to opening nights and launch parties for new venues, especially when we get to go to Sydney for them.  The Hi-Fi launched their third and newest venue in March, making them kings of the East Coast live music scene with a Hi-Fi in each capital.  Opening night the drinks were flowing, the rock stars were rocking and the Sydney VIPs (and half of Melbourne’s music industry it turns out) welcomed the HiFi to their new home in Fox Studios/EQ.

Performances by Owl Eyes (girl crush!), Stonefield, Tim Rogers, Phil Jameson, PEZ, and Naysayer & Gilsuns audio visual feast of mixed media were highlights of the night for me, amongst a host of performers from Oz rock royalty.

We LOVE Limedrop.  Nicky D and I have been tracking their progress for a few years now, from their early days in Melbourne to their recent success overseas and in Oz and their beautiful runway shows at various fashion weeks around the nation.  Their new The Adventure Concept Store opened on level 1 of GPO Melbourne on March 16 for a 3 month journey, so we dropped in to check out opening night.

Clea and Nathan are the masters at springing a pop up shop on us all after first opening in GPO a few years ago with the Far from Home store in 2009, followed by The Greenhouse pop-up shop Melbourne Central in 2010.  Their first Sydney concept store Calypso was a tropical oasis in the Grand Social’s Edition store in October 2011.  They also joined Nicky D in her Southern State of Mind popup 1 night Designer Showcase Charity fiesta in December 2011.  This store has a Traveller inspired design concept, raw wood finishes, vintage suitcases and stamp collections, South American handcrafts and rugs, and fiesta inspired colour injections.

Autumn Winter 2012 The Adventure collection features tasty dusky desert hues of bronze and burnt wood, spicy cherry, teal and cobalt.  The Ikat-Aztec inspired digital prints (Starsky print Keyhole top and mens Blazer pictured below…note the painfully handsome male model) conjure images of American countryside and night skies on the road and the travellin theme rolls on with plaid pieces reminiscent of classic lumberjack shirting.  The Lumber Tail dress has a cloak like silhouette which is always a favourite for me, love me a good cape and cannot get enough in my closet.  Limedrop’s new Elle De collection of super soft underwear is also instore, so we needn’t be nude under their sheer pieces.  

Oh, and the floral headpieces are so festive they make us wanna dance the Salsa, the Rhumba, the Cha Cha, all 3, whatever, gotta go get us some:  Brights for Nicky D, Black for me….

Nicky D and I have maximum respect for the girls from Di$count for their unswerving distinctive label aesthetic and tireless online marketing, and for so persistently studding, sequinning, printing embellishing and generally producing the tightest, shiniest, brightest and most heavily hardwared garments this side of L.A.  Not surprisingly they have amassed some very dedicated followers and fans, who came out heavily adorned for the Di$count Arti$inal collection launch at Penthouse Mouse for LMFF, and left impressed and inspired by the debut show.

The editorially styled show gave a perhaps unintentional, maybe referential wink to Vivienne Westwood in her 70′s punk days with the Sex Pistols with the SEX emblazoned T-shirt worn with fuchsia metallic leather studded jacket, pencil skirt and flatform boots, and also featured fetish inspired fully sequinned neon gimp-bodysuits, Electric multicolour sequin suiting with Minnie Mouse eared headpieces, POP glitter Di$count branded catsuit, Neon psychedelic prints, a Bondage buckled minidress in neon Pink and Yellow, Studs, studs & more studs styled on rainbows, the most commercial look of the show was the Gold safety pin encrusted dress styled with a rocket studded cap (best eyebrows and makeup of the night go to the model showing this look), I want that fiercely beautiful thing on my body right now and am prepared to deal with any ouchy pain it inflicts on me!!

LMFF rundown:

We ran in heels, we lusted over models + exquisite clothes, we photographed babes, we left.

L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival is over once again, so we finally have time to post the images we took of all the superbly dressed attendees we snapped at the heart of the action at Docklands last week.

The Opening Night parade showcased the David Jones labels, including Romance Was Born, Megan Park, Ksubi, Bianca Spender, Lover, Jack London, Camilla & Marc, Alannah Hill and Dion Lee.  Ms Dita Von Teese was ever immaculate in front row launching her Von Follies collection and Samantha Harris strutted effortlessly down the runway taking her place in the limelight in her role as Ambassador for David Jones.

And at Independent Runway Nicky D and I were pleased to discover that exposed nipples are totally back in Vogue (or should that be Yen) with sheer fabrics and soft layers appearing in several shows.  Since we are both obsessed with anything film based, the video imagery showing on the runway entrance was a show highlight for us.

Jolet’s photographic prints on sweet silhouetted pieces were delightful, but made me wanna take a European vacation, and I loved the strong styling Lui Hon featured in his show with Turban inspired hats and haunted eyes.  Ksubi went wild for animal print to a Rammstein soundtrack.

Livia Arena’s show had a beautiful Raised in a Religious Cult feel to it, always a favoured look for Nicky D and Jojo, it featured flowing caped coats in a muted palette, high pilgrim collars, the most divine shade of tangerine-peach we shall hereby refer to as TangerPeach and some great hats I die for, personally being a massive fan of Cowboy, Cordobes and especially Amish style hats ever since I saw Pete Doherty rocking one a few years ago.

And we LOVED Something Else…want that green sweater bad….
